Individual one-on-one coaching

Sometimes you just need an accountability partner. A dissertation coach is not in competition with the mentor or advisor but servers as a critical member of the graduate community that serves to keep graduate students focus and on-track toward graduation. Having a dissertation coach on campus helps graduate students to get regular feedback from someone outside their department. She works with student to improve their writing, organization, and time management skills.

Dr. CV’s fee is $175 per hour, with payment required in advance. Her time is valuable and so is yours. Individual Dissertation Coaching Services $175.00 per hour or Pre-paid Packaged deal $500.00 for 4 hours. Contact me or Dr. Lenisa Joseph when you are serious and ready to get started on the path to doctoral completion. We also offer Group coaching as well.

Coaches can help you get organized, and regularly track your progress to ensure that you stay on top of tasks. Their goal is to work in every possible way to help you write your dissertation, finish it, and get it published.

WE CAN HELP YOU WITH THE FOLLOWING SERVICE AREAS

Group Coaching

“Group Coaching” is also valuable. Through this model, once a coach provides counsel to several students over in a virtual environment. Everyone involved agrees to confidentiality, and the group is configured to guarantee that no one in the group will be in competition with another. The advantage of this approach is that you can accomplish more in less time, and can have the opportunity to work with students in different disciplines from all over the world. The group setting also provides built-in peer support.

 Dissertation Writing Coach

A dissertation writing coach follows up with students and assists with regular accountability by providing specific feedback on writing, recommending time-management strategies, and providing expertise in blending content knowledge with the workshop model. The coach assesses graduate students' individual needs and guides data discussions with students to facilitate PhD completion long after the camp has ended. To summarize, dissertation coaches emphasize a holistic, rather than strictly academic, approach to completing the degree. They can discuss the student's project in complete confidence, either in person or over the phone, and also serve as a sounding board for stress relief. A dissertation writing coach can provide students with both emotional and academic support to help them complete important tasks as well as the tools they need to achieve their goals, allowing them to accomplish more with less effort.

Clarify Your Goals

By identifying your goals and understanding the many different goals in your life, including your goals for your writing project, you can find your way towards best achieving them. How do your different goals complement each other? And how do they compete?

Clarify Your Ideas

Having clear ideas and a clear vision of what your dissertation entails can help you advance, from project planning to the creation of a theoretical perspective. Even if you are aware of your goals, it may be unclear how to achieve them.

 Clarify Your Writing

Sometimes ideas that seem clear slip away when you try to capture them on paper. With good editorial feedback, you can see which words are working, which aren’t and you can get ideas on how to improve your work.

Get Your Project Finished!

How much time do you want to spend on that project? Don’t you have other things you want to work on, too? Coaching and editing can save your valuable time.

Individual coaching is available from Dr. Wendy Carter to help you complete your writing project. This is done largely by telephone and focuses on helping you make use of your own talents, resources, and strengths so that you are successful in the completion of your project.

Editing Service

I got high marks in all of my college preparatory English classes, but hit a sticking point in my freshman year of college, when a visiting instructor told me that my writing skills were lacking. I was devastated by her negative assessment, and my confidence in my writing waned.

The following semester, I finished my freshman writing sequence at another university. Despite the fact that I wrote my essays on the bus rides to and from class, I was able to achieve straight A’s. Still, my confidence in my writing remained shaken.

If you have suffered a similar negative experience, it is important to understand that time and continued practice will heal this wound. Writing is like everything else: the more you practice, the better you get. It is important to move past any confidence issues you have by just writing and writing more. Another good way to build confidence is to share your writing with trusted confidantes who will appraise, constructively criticize and help edit your words.

While I highly recommend using a third party to edit your work, it’s important to find the right person. Your thesis/dissertation will be written for a highly intellectual community, many of whom are experts in your field. As such, the editor you choose must be practiced in an academic style of writing that will appeal to this audience.

Evaluate potential editors by having them edit a few pages of your work to get a feel for their style. It’s helpful to provide samples of journal articles in your field, and to advise the editor of your style requirements and expectations. Some editors only edit for grammar and specific MLA or APA formatting issues. Others edit for overall continuity, and will check to ensure that the paragraphs are in the proper sequential order, and whether a particular argument makes sense.

My experience tells me that when something is well written it takes an hour to read 10 pages (light editing), when it’s not well written there are a series of stops, and starts that can take the reader 2+ hours to read the same 10 pages (heavy editing).

Editing Fees

Heavy editing is $8.00-10.00 per page, Light Editing $4.00-5.00, Formatting $2.50-3.50 per page.

“Some people need a quick turnaround time with their documents. A quick turnaround means that the editor must drop everything and move your document up on the priority list ahead of everyone else’s. Hence, the Quick turnaround fee is $300.00 dollars for less than 5 days, $250.00 for 6-10 days and $200.00 for 11-13 days. 14 days no additional fees. “
