Faculty Positions in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering – Energy Emphasis
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with specific emphasis on energy systems. The positions are the next phase in a long-term strategic strengthening of the Department, which recently hired multiple faculty members, including a new Chair, Distinguished Professor Achille Messac.
Candidates with exceptional credentials may be considered for appointments at higher ranks, aligned with our goal of cultivating a diverse and vibrant faculty.
Syracuse University seeks diverse candidates with established records of scholarship in energy systems and their underlying scientific and engineering disciplines; with particular focus on: sustainable energy supply and conservation in the built environment; conversion and utilization of low- and zero carbon energy resources such as solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear; distributed generation and cogeneration; energy storage; and intelligent control and optimization of such systems across multiple spatial and temporal scales. One position will be specifically targeted at recruiting a candidate in the area of control and optimization of energy systems.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or in a closely affiliated field. Junior candidates are expected to show potential for excellence in scholarship in the energy field; senior candidates must have distinguished records of sponsored energy-related research and publications. Successful candidates are expected to develop and pursue a sustained energy-related sponsored research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical and aerospace engineering, develop and offer energy-related courses, advise undergraduate and graduate
students, and participate in professional society service activities. Strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable. Syracuse University offers a competitive package of salary, benefits, startup funds and state of the art research facilities.
The Department offers ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and in aerospace engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical & aerospace engineering and an M.S. degree in engineering management (http://www.mae.syr.edu). In recent years, the MAE Department has been on a steady trajectory of growth in the number of faculty and in externally funded research, especially in the strategically targeted area of energy and environmental systems. Over the last ten years, more than $60 million has been invested at Syracuse University to create premier facilities for research relating to energy and environmental systems embodied in the multi-institutional collaborative research
infrastructure of New York State’s Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems
